How to Choose the Right Data Sheet

Choosing the right data sheet for special education is all about the IEP goal. Are you progress monitoring a student's reading, checking what sight words they can read each week, monitoring their ability to complete independent work, or gathering data on an attention-seeking behavior?

All of the data sheets that you need plus many more are available in the Special Ed Data Sheets Bundle. I created this to be entirely set for the year on data sheets no matter what my student's IEP goals are. At the beginning of the year, I simply print the data sheets that I need for each student and put them in their IEP binder. Then, we are ready to begin taking data each day! I don't create brand new data sheets every year for every single student! This has saved me SO MUCH TIME!

How Often Should You Collect Data for an IEP?

How often you need to collect data on an IEP goal depends on the goal that was created during the student's IEP meeting. Since IEP Progress Reports will be given to parents at the end of the nine-week quarter, you want to make sure that you collect enough data during that time frame.

Some behavior goals may require collecting data daily. Especially if you are collecting ABC data. Most special educators are able to collect data on IEP goals at least weekly or biweekly.
